Sensor Family Simplifies RH Sensing in Consumer, Industrial and Automotive Designs

Silicon Labs, a developer of high-performance, analog-intensive, mixed-signal ICs, has introduced the Si701x/2x family of relative humidity (RH) and temperature sensors that combine a standard CMOS mixed-signal IC with the technique of measuring humidity using a polymer dielectric film.

According to the company, the new family offers a variety of superior features compared to competing RH/temperature sensors, including the industry’s only integrated RH/temperature sensor product that supports a two-zone temperature measurement capability. With a 3.3 V power supply voltage and 8-bit resolution, the Si701x/2x sensors consume only 1.9 µW average on-chip power when taking one sample per second, which is up to six times lower power than competing RH sensors. In addition, the Si701x/2x sensors maintain ±3% RH maximum accuracy over a humidity range of  0 to 80% RH and ±0.4 °C maximum temperature accuracy over a temperature range of -10 to +85 °C.

The new Si701x/2x family is ideal for RH sensing applications in home automation, HVAC, refrigeration, healthcare, remote monitoring, automotive and industrial equipment, the company said. In addition, when combined with Silicon Labs microcontrollers or wireless ICs, the Si701x/2x family enables various solutions for measuring, controlling and reporting environmental conditions for a wide range of connected devices linked to the Internet of Things.
