New VPX3-150 Single Board Computer

Curtiss-Wright Corporation has announced a new safety certifiable COT to its defense solutions division that has been designed primarily for use in the military. The VPX3-150 is a “a new rugged commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) single board computer (SBC) that supports DO-254 DAL C and DO-178C DAL C safety certifiably.” This COT will be significantly faster to reproduce and cost less to make than previous models.

Researchers say the “VPX3-150 is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core Freescale® QorIQ P5020 COTS processor and an extensive I/O complement. It eases and speeds the integration of low-power, dual 32-bit Power® Architecture processing into deployed airborne systems that require secure, deterministic and high performance, even in the most harsh environments.”

“We are very excited to debut the first products in our new family of Safety Certifiable COTS Modules. The VPX3-150 provides our customers with a rugged, high performance single board computer supported by comprehensive DO-254 and DO-178 data artifact packages. It provides a cost-effective alternative to custom designs,” Lynn Bamford, senior vice president and general manager of the defense solutions division, said.
