Multi-Layered Insulation Materials Protect Electronics from Extreme Temperatures
09/30/2013

Dumore Corporation, a global supplier of engineered coated and laminated films, has announced that its multi-layered insulation (MLI) materials are being used to protect four science payload instrument packages aboard the LADEE Robotic Lunar Explorer from extreme space temperatures between -195°F and more than 300°F (-125°C to +150°C).

NASA’s Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer is a robotic mission on its way to orbit the moon to gather detailed information about the lunar atmosphere, conditions near the surface and environmental influences on lunar dust. LADEE was launched in early September and is expected to remain in space for 100 days.

Dunmore’s Dun-Shield electrostatic dissipative (ESD) films were also installed throughout the construction of the spacecraft to protect the four payload instruments and other components from unwanted static and triboelectric charges.
